THE DEBRIS IN ARAGO C
| A LARGER VARIETY
This is a view of the north rim and the debris along the north wall. The indicated features are discussed below. Each feature is seen three times: non-enhanced, enhanced, and with interpretive lines added. In order to give an idea of the amount of enlargement used on each image, the size of each feature on the original negative will be given at the end of the discussion of that particular feature. |
| FEATURE A |
When first seen in the 8x10 print, this feature resembled a multi-paned window with an elongated feature protruding from the top. The "frame" of the "window" is outlined in red. The five dark spots at first appeared to be holes or depressions but now appear to be the shadows of raised features. The interesting area is to the left or shadowed side of the "window". The green outline indicates what I interpret as the shadow of the "window", while the blue and purple outlines indicate features which seem to protrude from beneath the "window". The orange outline indicates the shadow of the blue-outlined feature. Size of the "Window" on the original negative: 4mm long |
| FEATURE B
This was the second feature to catch my attention, and I find it to be more interesting. The outline is of a somewhat ragged circle (red) with a smoother, raised circle (orange) within. The shadow of the outer circle is indicated in blue. The green outline indicates a feature which seems to lie across the "circle", apparently raised at the upper end. Also notable here is the grainy appearance in this area. The first impression is that this is due to the grain of the film, but there are several arguments against this. A discussion of this can be found on the Beads page. Size of the "Bisected Circle" on the original negative: 3mm across. |
| FEATURE C
This feature has the rough shape of the top half of a hexagon (red), hence the name. This shape and the convex profile first attracted my attention, but closer examination revealed the somewhat regularly-spaced bumps (orange) noticeable toward the shaded side of the "Hex". There are indications of similar bumps continuing over to the sunward side of the "Hex". Some of the bumps seem to be aligned in rows (green). Some seem to be part of rows aligned in two different directions (blue). Another interesting feature is the sharp ridge which runs across the "Hex" (diagonal yellow). This ridge is particularly sharp at the top where it passes from the "Hex". The nearly horizontal yellow lines indicate what appear to be small grooves or ridges near the bottom of the "Hex". While the second and third clips on the other images are enhanced, those in the above image were intentionally blurred slightly in order to more easily view the larger details by 'tuning out' the smaller details. Size of the "Hex" on the original negative: 8mm across. |
| FEATURE D
The "blade" of the "Dagger" is outlined in red. As interesting as the "blade" is, it is the feature which lies across it (blue) which least fits a natural moonscape. Note the two small bumps on either side of the 'blade', and the larger, more pointed features (green) just outside of those. Further discussion and a closer look at the smaller features are on the Dagger page.
Size of the "Dagger" on the original negative: 4mm long. |
